IRS EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR INDIVIDUALS

New York, NY — March 18, 2021

As you may have heard, the IRS announced earlier today that the 2020 personal tax filing deadline has been moved from April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021. This change provides much needed extra time to taxpayers, CPAs and the IRS to work through a very challenging tax season during the ongoing pandemic and recent changes to tax laws included in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.

The IRS will provide more guidance and details on the extended filing season in the coming days.

The extended deadline at this point applies only to individual federal tax returns and payments. It is not yet certain that states will go along with the IRS and, if so, to what degree.

We will continue to provide updates as more information is made available.
